When doing photography and videography for the cosplay community, occasionally I find myself needing extra marketing collateral to help promote and represent my content, either in the form of video announcements or price sheets.
My core audience is located on Instagram, and since I can't directly link my YouTube videos to my Instagram page, I have to improvise. My solution for the past few years has been to create announcement posts themed around the convention most recently attended. The announcement post is made, and I tag all of the cosplayers who had been featured in the video, as well as alerting my audience that a new showcase video has gone up. From there, they can follow the YouTube link in my Instagram bio to check out the latest showcase!
From the freelance side of things, I have found a lot of photographers and artists in this community tend to use the same style of formatting for their marketing collateral; usually bright and colorful pastels, loud colors, large curly fonts, etc. Sometimes they don't even do that and instead just use designs that are bare-bones basic. The issue for me is that a lot of the time it all tends to bleed together and makes it harder for the individuals to stand out.
To stand apart from the crowd, I take a bit of a different approach by branding my content with a Fall/Halloween theme, using a skull as my primary logo, colors usually associated with Halloween, and also keeping somewhat close to the community by using an 8-bit style skull and text for the core logo, similar to that of the era of games the community has grown up on. Simply put, it's a design and color scheme that is hardly used and I find helps to ensure my brand is a bit more memorable. Also, spooky Halloween content is fun!
Again, playing to the strength of Instagram, I have created multiple graphics used for Instagram stories that can be saved on my profile. This way, when visiting my page, any important freelance information is readily available.
